Abstract

Polycrystalline n-type CdTe:In films were deposited by elemental vapor transport (EVT). Because the p-type window (heterojunction partner) layer is critical to achieving optimal performance in n-CdTe solar cells, this work investigates CuxZn1-xS thin films as prospective p-type partners for n-CdTe:In devices. CuxZn1-xS films with three compositions (x=0.30, 0.45, and 0.60) were successfully deposited. All three compositions exhibited high electrical conductivity, suggesting a high hole concentration on the order of ~1020 cm-3. Fabrication of complete solar cells incorporating CuxZn1-xS as the p-type window layer is currently in progress, and the corresponding device results will be reported in the manuscript.
