Abstract

SOLARIS is a European research and innovation project that systematically investigates and improves the recyclability of photovoltaic (PV) systems along the entire value chain. Against the backdrop of rapid global PV expansion and growing challenges in terms of resource consumption, environmental impact, supply chain dependencies, and social responsibility, SOLARIS aims to support a sustainable, resource-efficient, and circular PV industry in Europe. The project concludes that a holistic, data-based, and cross-technology view of PV value creation is crucial to significantly reduce environmental impacts while taking economic and social aspects into account. For this purpose, SOLARIS aims to provide practical guidelines, a comprehensive database, and digital tools that will enable industry and policymakers to make informed decisions and accelerate the transformation toward a circular, resilient, and sustainable PV industry in Europe.
