Abstract
The rapid expansion of photovoltaic (PV) deployment is creating growing demand for a skilled and adaptable workforce across manufacturing, deployment, operations, and research. While workforce growth is often framed as a numerical challenge, experience from industry and training programs indicates that structural misalignment between education pathways, job roles, and career progression is an equally limiting factor. This paper synthesizes insights from workforce development efforts, industry engagement, and education programs to identify key bottlenecks and distinct workforce pipelines within the PV sector. We highlight complementary education and training models spanning community colleges, universities, national laboratories, industry-led programs, and online resources, and discuss how coordinated workforce design can support reliable, scalable, and resilient PV deployment.
