Radiometric Solar Simulator Calibration for Space Photovoltaics

Abstract


This work introduces a solar simulator calibration method that employs a calibrated spectroradiometer to achieve results comparable to balloon-flown, near-space-calibrated solar cells. By leveraging statistical averaging, we quantified the margin of error in the spectral mismatch factor and established statistical quality control limits to ensure measurement consistency. This approach provides a precise, reproducible, and robust alternative to traditional reference cell-based methods for both pre- and post-radiation testing, while also enabling accurate solar simulator calibration and ongoing system performance monitoring.
