Abstract
Global horizontal irradiance is freely available as a user-ready product called downward shortwave radiation (DSR) from NOAA’s Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES). It is currently available at 10-minute intervals and 2~km resolution for the continental US and most of the Western Hemisphere, with less than 1-hour delay from real-time. This dataset does not appear to be well-known in the solar industry. We provide a brief overview of the dataset and compare the data with ground station measurements.
