Abstract

The increase in global energy demand and concerns about energy security have prompted electricity users to consider photovoltaic (PV) systems to generate their power. Although they benefit the environment and offer increased resilience to power system failures, their high adoption poses operational violations, such as thermal and voltage violations in distribution networks. This article explores how residential energy storage systems (RESS) and smart inverter (SI) functions can improve the hosting capacity (HC) of PV systems. This analysis is carried out using HC analysis of a real distribution system modeled in OpenDSS together with Matlab.
