Potential Capacity and Targeted Costs for Floating Photovoltaics in North America

Floating Photovoltaics (FPV) is getting significant attention worldwide, pushed by the lower rent fees of water surfaces compared to land and by the lack of competition with agriculture. This work makes use of previously presented methodologies to analyze the FPV potential in the northern American countries, estimating the yields of systems installed on the inland water basins. The FPV cost of electricity is also discussed and compared with that of traditional land-based photovoltaic (LPV) systems. This way, it is possible to estimate the capital expenditure that FPV should target to be cost-competitive with LPV.
