Performance Ratio Comparison of Two Solar Module Technologies for Pakistan

Crystalline Silicon (c-Si) and Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) based module technologies are used in more than 93% of the terrestrial solar photovoltaic (PV) applications. The use of optimum technology depends on multiple factors, and it is essential to evaluate suitable module technology by evaluating parameters such as the energy output and performance ratio (PR). This paper investigates the behavior of the two module technologies under the varying environmental conditions i.e., irradiance and temperature for Pakistan. The case study evaluates electricity production and PR of a 10 kWp PV system (evaluated for the two module technologies) and quantifies the benchmark energy production for 10 cities in the country.
