Ongoing performance assessment strategies & operational challenges when managing hundreds of distributed photovoltaic assets across Asia

When managing a few solar farms of tens of MWp, asset owners are occupied with a handful of these systems within their delimited area. However, picture managing hundreds of small systems (below 1 MWp/site) across a vast area encompassing several developing countries. Challenges range from assessing the performance of the photovoltaic systems to maintaining these in a cost-effective manner. In this paper, we further attack two major points which were previously presented at two IEEE PVSC past events – (1) determining how best to gauge performance ratios of PV systems in a highly distributed setting given the availability and boundary conditions of irradiation sources, and (2) analyzing how assets have concurrently performed in a diversified portfolio. Asia is a hot spot for PV system deployment, yet little research exists when compared to other matured markets in Europe and America. This work aims at further contributing knowledge on PV systems in this part of the world.
